August[]

90S.INVEST[]

First invest of the year in the SWIO. Not sure if this'll form, but it is unusually early to see an invest in this basin. Ryan1000 02:45, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Code Orange per the JTWC, and is now a "Zone of Disturbed weather" per MFR. Ryan1000 14:31, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Gone, guess this never became a named storm. Ryan1000 16:25, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

October[]

01S.ANCHA[]

91S.INVEST[]

New invest in the SWIO. Currently coloured yellow on JTWC. Jas (Anonymous 2.0) (talk) 03:04, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Code Orange now, could we be seeing a pre-season SWIO storm? Ryan1000 17:48, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Ancha[]

Start of October, and we have a SWIO tropical storm. Not likely to affect land, but a nice early start to the season. Ryan1000 04:43, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Post-Tropical Cyclone Ancha[]

JTWC has issued their final warning as Ancha goes post-tropical. Ryan1000 06:08, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

93S.INVEST[]

This is just in the SWIO’s northeastern corner, but is only on tidbits and NRL. Ryan1000 20:36, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

94S.INVEST[]

Another one is in the SWIO, southwest of where 93S was, but is only on tidbits/NRL for now. Ryan1000 14:31, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

November[]

02S.BHEKI[]

95S.INVEST[]

Low odds per JTWC for now. Ryan1000 21:59, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Medium odds now. is Bheki coming? ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 15:38, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Bheki[]

Second storm of the season has formed. Expected to become a hurricane-strength storm within the next few days. ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 22:57, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Severe Tropical Storm Bheki[]

JTWC has this at hurricane strength and is expected to peak as a category two. ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 17:36, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Tropical Cyclone Bheki[]

Up to a category 3 now. ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 22:26, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Intense Tropical Cyclone Bheki[]

What a spectacle this storm is! Up to a high-end C3 on JTWC and an intense tropical cyclone by MFR standards. Pressure down to 943 mbars. ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 17:45, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

130 mph c4 now. ☁️ Nerd ☀️ (Have a conversation) (Inputs) 22:11, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

Tropical Cyclone Bheki (2nd time)[]

Was a nice burst of RI while it lasted, but now Bheki is weakening to a category 2 storm, and will continue to wind down before reaching Mauritius and Reunion. Ryan1000 15:37, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Bheki (2nd time)[]

Down to a tropical storm again, and almost all convection has been displaced from the center by now. Ryan1000 05:49, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Post-Tropical Cyclone Bheki[]

Turned post-tropical south of Mauritius. Ryan1000 12:17, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

December[]

91S.INVEST[]

This is at low odds per the JTWC, and is expected to move into the AUS region soon. Ryan1000 16:50, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

04S.CHIDO[]

92S.INVEST[]

Same as 91S above, but this is expected to move west towards northern Madagascar. Ryan1000 16:50, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Code red, this could become named soon... Ryan1000 05:11, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Tropical Storm 04S (Tropical Depression 04)[]

This is now a tropical storm per JTWC, but is only a depression per MFR for now. This is expected to become a strong tropical storm before clipping northern Madagascar and then moving towards Mozambique. Ryan1000 22:10, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Chido[]

Became a moderate tropical storm earlier... Ryan1000 05:20, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Severe Tropical Storm Chido[]

...but is now a severe tropical storm, and the JTWC's forecast peak has been rapidly rising as of late. Now Chido is forecast to become a 115 mph cat 3 before weakening to a cat 1 by the time it trims northern Madagascar, then a tropical storm into Mozambique. Ryan1000 05:20, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Tropical Cyclone Chido[]

Became a tropical cyclone a short while ago... Ryan1000 20:54, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Intense Tropical Cyclone Chido[]

...and just like that, it exploded into an intense tropical cyclone. 140 mph as of now, and it could get stronger over the next 24 hours before weakening en route to northern Madagascar and Mozambique. Ryan1000 20:54, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Very Intense Tropical Cyclone Chido[]

Chido intensified into a category 5 very intense tropical cyclone earlier… Ryan1000 21:10, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Intense Tropical Cyclone Chido (2nd time)[]

…but is back down to intense tropical cyclone status now. JTWC now expects Chido to maintain 130 mph when passing just north of Madagascar, and potentially maintain 120 mph cat 3 intensity when moving into northern Mozambique. This could be their biggest cyclone since Kenneth of 2019… Ryan1000 21:10, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Landfall on Mayotte Island[]

Chido made landfall over the island of Mayotte (population of about 320,000 people) in the northern Mozambique Channel with 140 mph winds, causing severe damage there, and Mozambique is next. It's looking likely that the center will make landfall between Pemba (where Kenneth struck) and Nacala further south. Ryan1000 15:00, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Landfall south of Pemba, Mozambique[]

Chido has recently made landfall south of the city of Pemba in Mozambique as a powerful 130 mph category 4 storm, so Chido is now tied with Leon-Eline of 2000 as Mozambique's second-strongest landfalling tropical cyclone on record by 1-minute sustained winds, behind Kenneth's 140 mph landfall in 2019. This is likely going to inflict some serious damage to the country...hopefully loss of life isn't too high. Ryan1000 06:46, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

Post-Tropical Cyclone Chido[]

Dissipated inland, but the most of the damage has been done already. Ryan1000 06:01, 16 December 2024 (UTC)

124 fatalities confirmed, with the death toll expected to rise. Chido could very well end up as the worst since Freddy and Idai. Jas (Anonymous 2.0) (talk) 15:55, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Some time later, Chido has now been confirmed to have caused at least 3.9 billion in damage to Mayotte and Mozambique, and is now the costliest SWIO cyclone on record, surpassing Idai of 2019. Ryan1000 22:06, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

January[]

92S.INVEST[]

This is code orange per the JTWC, just northeast of Madagascar. Ryan1000 18:26, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

07S.DIKELEDI[]

94S.INVEST[]

This is also code orange per the JTWC, just to the west of the SWIO/AUS border at 90E, and is expected to traverse the Indian Ocean over the next several days from east to west. Ryan1000 18:26, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Code red now, this could become named... Ryan1000 17:01, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Tropical Cyclone Dikeledi[]

Became named a short while ago, but is now a tropical cyclone. Its track looks similar to, say, Cyclone Ernest of January 2005, 20 years ago. Dikeledi hit the northern tip of Madagascar recently, and is then expected to curve around the island before hitting the southern tip of the island like Ernest did. Ryan1000 05:16, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

Landfall in Mozambique[]

Looks like this is pulling a Jokwe '08 rather than an Ernest '05, as this managed to run into northern Mozambique as a tropical cyclone. Ryan1000 00:35, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Remnants of Dikeledi[]

Missed Madagascar's southern coast, and now it's turned post-tropical. Ryan1000 09:49, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

92S.ELVIS[]

Tropical Depression 06 (92S.INVEST)[]

This is near the southwestern tip of Madagascar, and could cause flooding there. Ryan1000 22:05, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Elvis[]

Has been named Elvis. Shouldn't strengthen in the future per JTWC.  ~ Roy25   Talk | Contributions   15:45, January 29, 2025 (UTC)

11S.FAIDA[]

Tropical Cyclone 11S (Tropical Disturbance 07)[]

This is out to sea for now, and is expected to move WSW towards Mauritius and Reunion. Ryan1000 22:05, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Moderate Tropical Storm Faida[]

Now named Faida, and heading towards a landfall in Madagascar. If it survives crossing the island, it may hit Mozambique as a tropical storm too. Ryan1000 13:19, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

Post-Tropical Cyclone Faida (94S.INVEST)[]

Dissipated over Madagascar earlier, but it could regenerate in the Mozambique Channel. Ryan1000 07:14, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

The remnants of Faida were reclassified as 94S by the JTWC a short time ago, but are only at low odds of regeneration before moving into Mozambique. Ryan1000 17:50, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

February[]

13S.VINCE[]

Tropical Cyclone Vince[]

Vince has moved from the AUS region here, and might remain a TC for several more days, like his sister Taliah behind him, remaining out to sea all the time. Ryan1000 18:13, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

Intense Tropical Cyclone Vince[]

Though Taliah has been struggling to significantly intensify, Vince put on quite an impressive round of intensification earlier, peaking as a 125 mph cat 3 and it's still 120 as I type this. Bringing up those ACE totals nicely. Ryan1000 07:12, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Very Intense Tropical Cyclone Vince[]

Became a VITC per MFR a short while ago, and peaked as a 155 mph, 924 mbar cat 4 per the JTWC, just under category 5 intensity, with 140 mph 10-minute sustained winds and a 923 mbar pressure per MFR. Ryan1000 17:50, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
